The True Essence of Living Intentionally is Getting to Know Your Higher Self
The deeper meaning of intentional living
Hello loves,
Let’s begin with a breath.
Inhale energy…
Exhale to soften your body 😌
This week, I want to offer a quieter, deeper take on intentional living. Because it’s not just about cleaning out your closet or perfecting a routine—it’s about coming home to yourself.
(What does that even mean!? 🧐😋)
True intentional living is not about doing more, it’s about being more you.
It begins when we stop chasing, stop performing, and start listening to the calm, wise voice inside that whispers instead of shouts.
The voice that gently nudges us toward alignment.
That voice is your Higher Self.
I’ll admit, the first time I heard about the higher self, I thought it was a bit woo-woo, but here’s what it actually means…
What is the Higher Self?
The Higher Self is the calm, wise, deeply knowing part of you that exists beyond any of your fears, your ego, or external circumstances and noise. It’s the version of you that is already whole, and connected to something greater - some people call this God, Source, The Universe, or just an internal knowing.
For me, I lean more towards the universe, but I’m not exactly sure what I’m connected to yet, I just know that there is something bigger than us that connects all of us. And that for me is a really peaceful feeling, it gives me faith and hope as well in times that feel uncertain. (As someone who didn’t grow up religious, it’s comforting to have something to believe in now).
The higher self doesn’t rush or react.
It doesn’t seek validation.
It gently guides you toward what feels true, expansive, and peaceful.
While your ego is the opposite, it often speaks loudly—fueled by fear, comparison, or scarcity—your Higher Self speaks softly, like a whisper in the quiet.
Living from your Higher Self
This means tuning into that voice and letting it lead your choices. I personally have a really strong gut feeling, and I follow that feeling often. I know not everyone feels this, but I think my intuition and gut feeling has grown so much stronger over the past few years since practising self-awareness and mindfulness.
When you live intentionally, you're making choices that align with that higher version of yourself. And it all comes back to self-awareness.
So, how to begin living this way?
Here are 4 things to think about:
Create space for silence each day (even just 5 minutes). Silence allows you to daydream, it allows your mind to wander and assists you in getting to know yourself. Give yourself 5 minutes a day to be silent, and see what comes up for you.
Ask intentional questions. This is where journaling can come in handy. Ask yourself questions like… What do I need? What am I avoiding? What’s calling me forward? (For me, I felt a really strong calling to make this newsletter and YouTube channel. It was like a deep knowing inside me, that I had to share this information. And I ignored it for a while, because it meant change and it meant more work with no real guarantee of making more money. But that feeling inside me was just so strong, that I couldn’t not do it. And I thought, what do I have to lose!?)
Next is to check in with your energy. What drains you vs. what nourishes you? Even make a list on your phone that you can refer to, so you can be reminded of it when you need.
Lastly. Try to think of one small aligned habit you can add to your daily schedule that takes you closer to your higher self. Whatever that may be, make it small, and commit to doing it every day for the next 30 days. Small habits that we do daily, are the ones that really make a difference.
Here are some small ideas:
✾ enthusiastically kissing and hugging your partner every night when they get home from work (if you want more connection with your partner)
✾ brushing your pet before bed every night (for more connection with your pets)
✾ asking your family what they’re grateful for today at the dinner table
✾ wiping down the bathroom bench every morning after getting ready
✾ walking around your garden every morning in silence for 5 minutes
✾ mindfully making your coffee every morning
✾ saying I love you to yourself in the mirror every morning
✾ stretching for 5 minutes before bed every night
✾ saying “thank you” out loud while doing mundane chores around the house like dishes and laundry (gratitude!)
When you slow down, listen deeply to that voice inside, and choose from alignment… life softens. You begin to feel more at peace—not because everything is all of a sudden perfect, but because finally you are living life on purpose.
📝 Journal Prompt of the Week – If I lived each day from my Higher Self, what would I do differently this week? (What would I say no to? What would I move toward?)
☕ Small Joys This Week - This week, I gave myself permission to relax and slow down even when there was so much to do and most importantly without any guilt. This is a huge feat for me. I’m better at slowing down and relaxing these days, but it almost always comes with guilt. I’m proud of myself and that’s my small joy this week ☺️
🧘♀️ Intention for the Week - (let’s say it together) “I choose peace over performance. I create space to hear what my Higher Self has been trying to tell me all along.”
